Giambattista Valli F/W 2016-2017
by Abdon FLORES
The cocktail dress has in Giambattista Valli a major actor and an efficient designer that assures this key garment will shine still for a long time. The 2016-2017 Fall/Winter season confirms this statement. Beautiful cocktail dresses declined in any sort of forms and embellished with that special couture-like touch distinguishing the Italian designer. The few coats in the runway lacked the heaviness of such garment due to their dainty appearance and choice of fabrics and colors.
Ancient Rome was definitely an inspiration for the strapped shoes, giving the models in white or clear dresses a vestal allure. Long sleeves and some Edwardian collars added a touch of romanticism to the collection, a detail adored by Mr. Valli’s fans. Floral patterns were the essence in many pieces, even in those where you don’t expect to find them, like bombers; they prevailed to close the show in the night gowns, where a little less botanic would have been better.
