Schiaparelli – haute couture SS 2017
The announce that venerated couture house Schiaparelli got again its haute couture label made a lot of noise a few weeks ago. Great expectations were put on this come-back show which took place at the opulent Hôtel d’Evreux, where the Ritz and Place Vendôme meet in a corner. The collection designed by Bertrand Guyon was called “Chinoiserie at heart”, and indeed used many far Orient references –perhaps too many–to ornate his creations.
The collection explored opulence and simplicity, and sent to the runaway pieces like a lobster dress displaying the painstaking craftsmanship of patched inserts. Or scales of golden jacquard set with beads to form an evening mini-cape morphing a shell with samurai armour. The spirit of Elsa was of course present in the clothes, for a new debut in haute couture her style had to be there. Japanese kimonos and Chinese hanfus, worn at home by Elsa Schiaparelli, echoed her creations: splendour with a rigorous cut.
